The wind is blowing – the leaves are changing – fall is here! Labor Day seems just like yesterday, but we’re almost into October already.
Fall is a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. Here are our tips to kick off the season the right way:
Get your flu shot – The single best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccine each season. The flu vaccine cannot give you the flu. The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone six months and older.
Eat more pumpkins – While it’s a ton of fun to carve out jack-o-lanterns, pumpkins are incredibly nutritious and full of vitamins A and C. You can try things like pumpkin spread, roasted pepitas. and roasted pumpkin. Pumpkins are also an immunity booster for the colder weather!
Try in-season veggies – Beets, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, eggplant, kale and squash are in all season. These foods are all tastiest at this time of year, and eating them can help diabetes prevention, heart health and much more.
Replace screens with storm windows – Mark each screen so you know which window it belongs in!
Rake the yard – Rake regularly and add the leaves to your compost pile. Be sure to clear leaves from your gutters, too.
Shut down outdoor faucet – Turn off all outdoor faucets. Coil up all hoses and store for the winter.
Check smoke detectors – Remember to check your smoke detectors twice a year! Daylight Savings Time is a great reminder to do this.
Check outdoor lighting – Make sure the trick-or-treaters can see where they’re going!
Have a great fall!
